More than 200 dogs and their owners attended the 2010 Annual Muttfest on May 16th at Memorial Park. The event, which holds a silent auction, raises money to support the Amarillo chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Guests enjoyed lots of food and canine entertainment along with live music.

Homer’s Backyard Ball

The annual Homer’s Backyard Ball, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Plains, took place on May 15th at I-40 East and Whitaker Road. Guests enjoyed barbeque, calf fries and entertainment by the Tommy Gallagher Band. Select guests also participated in the State-recognized “Homeritaville” Barbeque Cook Off.

Hispanic Chamber Fajita Fiesta

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted its 1st annual Fajita Fiesta on May 1st in Center City. Guests were served up hundreds of pounds of meat by several area restaurants and businesses. Proceeds from the event will fund scholarships and future chamber development projects.

The Golden Nail Awards

The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce’s art committee hosted its 28th annual Golden Nail Awards Gala on May 22nd at the Amarillo Civic Center. The GNAs honor area people and organizations for their financial, in-kind and volunteer contributions to the fine arts in Amarillo and the Panhandle. Guests enjoyed dinner catered by the Ambassador Hotel and entertainment by the Jim Laughlin Jazz Quartet.

The annual Partners in Education banquet, hosted by AISD, took place at the Amarillo Civic Center on April 13th. The event is held every year to recognize businesses and individuals who support the school district.

Job Fair

On April 13th, the spring job fair, hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, was held at the Amarillo Civic Center. There were booths from a variety of local companies ranging form food service and sales, to medical and agriculture.

Hope Festival

On April 9th, Sharing Hope Ministries hosted their annual Hope Fest in the Civic Center Grand Plaza. There were silent auctions and catering by OHMS. Sharing Hope Ministries reaches 28 states.

Best of Texas Luncheon

The annual Best of Texas luncheon was held at the Rex Baxter Building on the Tri-State Fairgrounds on April 23rd. The featured speaker was Jill Connor Browne of “Sweet Potato Queen” fame. Guests participated in a silent auction and a hat auction that featured a crown worn by Jill Connor Browne. Proceeds from the luncheon are used to fund projects of the Amarillo Junior League.

Best of Texas Gala

The Junior League of Amarillo hosts its 20th annual Best of Texas Gala on April 23rd at the Rex Baxter building on the Tri-State Fairgrounds. Guests enjoyed barbeque catered by the Country Barn, silent and live auctions and live entertainment from musician Jimmy Wayne.

Childers Place Mother's Day Tea

Hosted by the Amarillo's Senior Ambassadors Coalition, three generations of women sat down together for a Mother's Day tea on Saturday, May 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Childers Place. The event was celebrated with a Mad Hatter theme from Alice in Wonderland and featured tea, lunch and a silent auction to benefit the "Vials of Life" program.
