The Amarillo Zoo celebrated the Fourth of July weekend with a scavenger hunt, horseshoes, a hula-hoop contest, and activities such as pie-eating contests and a hot dog buffet. Onlookers cheered on Solomon the lion as he attempted to break the 72 oz. Big Texan steak record.
High Noon on the Square

The 16th season of High Noon on the Square, a summer weekly entertainment series, continued on June 30th. Guests enjoyed a free musical performance on the Potter County Courthouse lawn by Yvonne Perea and an optional lunch catered by Schlotzsky’s. Proceeds from the event benefit Amarillo’s Center City.
June Jazz

Hosted by Amarillo College, the 14th annual June Jazz concert series continued on June 22nd. The five-week, free concert series was held in the Pit Amphitheater at Amarillo College’s Washington Street Campus. Guests were entertained by that evening’s musicians, Polk Street Jazz.

The Amarillo Botanical Gardens held its weekly summer Music in the Gardens event on June 24th. Guests listened to the vocal talents of the gospel music group, Sisters Under the Anointing. Music in the Gardens will run every Thursday through August.
Chamber Summer Fiesta

The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce held its third annual Summer Fiesta on June 24th. The event featured 12 restaurants, so guests were treated to plenty of food and live music by The Golden Spread Chorus. Proceeds from the event will aid in the cost of operations for the Chamber.
Sticky Wickets

On June 19th, the Amarillo Botanical Gardens hosted its first annual regulation Croquet Tournament benefitting the Gardens. Organized by “Croquet Your Way,” the Sticky Wickets croquet tournament featured 21 teams that battled the heat and each other to earn first place along with awards for best dressed player, guest and referee. Guests enjoyed catering provided by OHMS, live music by The Martinis, and refreshments provided by Budweiser and the Party Stop. Decorations were provided by Parie Designs.
Partners in Palo Duro Gala

The annual Partners in Palo Duro Gala took place on May 15th at the Palo Duro Canyon State Park. Food and entertainment were provided to promote membership in the Partners in Palo Duro Foundation. All proceeds benefit Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
Muttfest

More than 200 dogs and their owners attended the 2010 Annual Muttfest on May 16th at Memorial Park. The event, which holds a silent auction, raises money to support the Amarillo chapter of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Guests enjoyed lots of food and canine entertainment along with live music.
Homer’s Backyard Ball

The annual Homer’s Backyard Ball, benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Texas Plains, took place on May 15th at I-40 East and Whitaker Road. Guests enjoyed barbeque, calf fries and entertainment by the Tommy Gallagher Band. Select guests also participated in the State-recognized “Homeritaville” Barbeque Cook Off.
Hispanic Chamber Fajita Fiesta

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce hosted its 1st annual Fajita Fiesta on May 1st in Center City. Guests were served up hundreds of pounds of meat by several area restaurants and businesses. Proceeds from the event will fund scholarships and future chamber development projects.web exclusives
