An internship with Amarillo Magazine presents students with an outstanding, real-world opportunity for hands-on experience in magazine publishing. From brainstorming and planning to writing, editing and participating in photo shoots, eligible candidates will be exposed to every facet of producing a monthly publication.

Students will take part in editorial meetings and assist with visual concepts, story boards, developing content ideas and coordinating a variety of photo shoots. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to research and write features for both the printed and online versions of the magazine, providing much-needed clips for print and digital portfolios.

Qualified candidates must be a junior or senior college student and have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively, have excellent writing abilities and be comfortable working on a deadline. Interns will be expected to handle themselves in a professional manner as representatives of Amarillo Magazine, execute interviews with clients and brainstorm with a creative team. Individuals will also need to possess time-management and customer-service skills, superior knowledge of the English language and AP Style, and the ability to use a computer system for editing and updating Amarillo Magazine’s social media.

Students must be working toward a journalism, public relations, mass communications or English degree. Personal transportation is required, as some days involve shopping, going on location to photo shoots and interviews, running errands and researching features. The Amarillo Globe-News will pay mileage for interns when they are on duty.

Now that we’ve told you what we expect, you might wonder what you’ll receive in return. As a part of Amarillo Magazine’s internship program, interns will gain experience working with a close-knit staff and be an important part of the AM team. Translation: you won’t be picking up dry cleaning or getting us coffee; you’ll be involved in the day-to-day operation and be a part of the details other interns miss out on.

The two major projects each month, our cover stories and fashion shoots, provide the most hands-on experience for interns. Imagine yourself being able to work closely with talented photographers, stylists and designers while we bring to life the beautiful images you see on our pages each month.
